Tips for Home Facial Care
Monday, March 12th, 2012
Keeping your face fresh and clean at home is easy if you know how. It’s simply a matter of choosing quality skin care products proven to protect and nourish your skin, following a regular skin care routine and avoiding all those skin-spoiling bad habits.
Easier said than done? Well here are a few facial care tips from La Spa that are sure to make things that bit easier for you – and your skin!
Cleansing Care
-
Taking care of your skin care tools is just as important as taking care of your skin. Replace cleansing cloths, pads and brushes regularly (or clean them if possible) to ensure you are not spreading bacteria and causing more harm than good to your skin.
-
When using cleansing products make sure your skin is not left feeling dry after use. Gel based washes and cleansers should be well emulsified with water in order to avoid skin becoming dry. Always follow your cleansing routine with a moisturising ritual to keep skin hydrated.
-
When cleansing your skin, use an organic face cloth. Cotton pads can be used to remove makeup but they don’t really clean skin. For a proper clean use a face cloth with tepid water and your cleansing lotion of choice. Make sure you clean the cloth regularly to avoid a build up of bacteria.
-
Avoid touching your skin too much throughout the day, particularly if you are prone to oily skin. This is because your fingertips, however clean, produce a build up of oil and touching your skin, particularly when wearing make up, can create the perfect opportunity for a nasty spot to present itself! For the same reason, avoid using your fingertips as a tool when applying foundation. Use a clean make-up application brush or disposable sponge.
-
Keep skin looking fresh by keeping it hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day and make sure your diet includes foods that are vitamin and nutrient rich to support healthy skin function. Most health guidelines recommend getting at least eight hours sleep a night to keep skin in optimum condition – so hit the lights!

Reducing Dark Circles Under Eyes – 6 Top Tips
Monday, August 30th, 2010
Rachel here from La Spa with some top tips for getting rid of dark eye circles.
Dark eye circles are very common these days for several different reasons. Less active lifestyles accompanied with poorer diet means sluggish circulation which can be shown around the eye area. Also people can tend to use too much product on the eye. Such as too much eye cream or else using their facial moisturiser instead which is a big no no!!
A few tips on how to reduce puffiness or discolouration on the eye area are as follows:
• If suffering from dark under eye circles and puffiness, change your eye cream for any eye gel as it is lighter again than a cream.
• Never use your facial moisturiser in place of your eye cream as moisturisers are made to a thicker consistency and therefore are too heavy for the fatty tissue around the eye to absorb, therefore the cream will be left sitting under the skin of the eye area and will cause the discolouration and bags.
• Use a rice grain amount of eye cream for both eyes and only apply it around the eye socket.
• Light tapping around the socket area and out towards the temples can help to increase circulation and blood flow and encourage movement to help eliminate any blockages.
• Also the old time remedies do help! Such as cucumber and cold tea bags on the eyes.
• As an extra helping hand Dr. Daniello make an eye cream which we use in our day spa which helps reduce dark eyes circles and crows feet, called 24hr eye care.

Acne Treatment – 4 Key Prevention Tips For Acne
Sunday, August 1st, 2010
Rachel here from La Spa…..
Starting from the inside first is key in relation to acne treatment. Eat a healthy balanced diet free of as much chemically enhanced food as possible. Things to definitely avoid are micro waved or processed foods and sweets. Instead of fizzy drinks, drink plenty of water or herbal teas and juices. Also include fresh fruit and vegetables in your diet as they are full of anti-oxidants which are essential to combat acne.
There are mineral supplements available from Dr. Daniello (used in our day spa) which replaces certain minerals (one of which being magnesium) in the body which people who suffer from acne have been found to be deficient in. Taking these supplements will help to prevent acne but are also good for general wellbeing and health.
My third tip in relation to acne treatment but definitely not my least important is a good skin care routine daily. Everybody needs to be cleansing their skin twice a day. The morning is just as important as the evening. Use a serum and moisturiser for your skin type and eye cream and SPF (Sun Protection Factor). Also exfoliate twice a week and use a facial deep cleansing mask to keep the skin clear of blockages and dirt. This way there will be no chance for the skin to accumulate oils and debris from day to day living and therefore no acne breakouts/acne scars will occur.
Finally, avoid applying make-up using your fingers or brushes that have not been cleaned as this can harbour bacteria and add excess oil to the skin, causing acne breakouts. Always make sure to wash your brushes and your hands before applying make-up!
